Editorial style illustrations which explore the debate surrounding the decriminalisation of abortion in Australia in 2019.
I created one illustration for each side of the argument.
The first illustration conveys the pro life perspective by presenting that each time an egg is fertilised, a metaphorical reservation is made for the resulting child at the hospital. With the reservations being cancelled when the pregnancy is terminated.
The second illustration conveys the pro choice perspective by featuring a protest led by white businessmen, arguing that women do not have the right to decide whether they desire to carry a pregnancy to term or not. Highlighting, through satire, the absurdity of a decision such as this being made by men who will never experience the effect that an unwanted pregnancy has on a woman. The men will have their eyes closed to symbolise their inability to see the reality of women being forced into becoming mothers before they are ready.
